The separation of roles
In the art trade the same party frequently occupies several roles at once — running the space, representing the artist, taking a commission on the sale, and sometimes advising the buyer. Each role on its own is legitimate. Combined, they produce interests that are difficult to reconcile and rarely disclosed.
This company does one of them. We operate the facilities. We are not dealers, agents, valuers or advisers, and we take no interest in what is sold from our rooms.
What that means for you
If you hire a space from us, our incentive is that the room works and that you hire it again. We have no view on whose work should be in it and nothing to gain from what it sells for.
Scale
Small. Running space well is a matter of attention rather than scale, and the things that go wrong — a failed heater in January, a lift out of service on an installation day — are dealt with faster by a company that is small enough to notice.
